Sharon Yam is an Associate Professor in Writing, Rhetoric, and Digital Studies at the University of Kentucky, serving as Director of Social Theory. She holds affiliations with Gender and Women's Studies, the Center for Equality and Social Justice, and Global Asias programs. Her research focuses on transnational citizenship, reproductive justice, affect theory, and critical animal studies. Yam earned her Ph.D. in Composition and Rhetoric from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, with prior degrees in English and Politics from the University of Pittsburgh.
Her 2019 monograph *Inconvenient Strangers* examines marginalized transnational subjects' struggles against exclusionary citizenship norms, winning the 2021 RSA Early Career Award and CCCC Book Award. Current projects apply reproductive justice frameworks to doula advocacy and queer kinship formations. Yam co-edits the *New Directions in Materiality and Rhetoric* series at Ohio State University Press.
