Dr. Sharon Lynn is the Horace N. Mateer Professor of Biology and Neuroscience at the College of Wooster. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Washington (2002) and a B.S. from the University of South Carolina (1996). Her research explores how early-life experiences shape endocrine system development in vertebrates, with specialized focus on songbirds like zebra finches and eastern bluebirds.
Her work examines: 1) Maternal care effects on offspring glucocorticoid/thyroid physiology, 2) Behavioral and hormonal responses to novel situations, and 3) Biological mechanisms for coping with environmental unpredictability. These investigations advance understanding of environmental endocrinology through rigorous field and laboratory studies.
Dr. Lynn's recent publications demonstrate consistent focus on stress physiology adaptations in avian species, particularly examining temperature effects on hormonal pathways and developmental outcomes. Her work integrates molecular, physiological, and behavioral approaches to understand ecological adaptation mechanisms.
