Sharon Leigh Oberstein

Dr Sharon Leigh Oberstein is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (UK) and an experienced optometrist with a PhD in driving with central visual impairment and bioptic telescopes. She currently serves as the academic lead for the low vision clinics at the UNSW Optometry Clinic, with professional experience across private optometric practice and university low vision clinics in South Africa, the UK, and Australia.

• Low vision rehabilitation technologies
• Age-related road safety
• Optometric clinical practice

Scientific Awards:

• 2015 Menzies Research Scholarship in Allied Health Sciences

Dr Oberstein's work focuses on translating low vision expertise into practical applications, including invitations to lecture at optometric and multi-disciplinary conferences and contributions to rehabilitation planning committees. She is affiliated with the Vision Loss and Healthy Ageing research group at UNSW.
