Sharon Johnson

Dr. Sharon Johnson is a Professor and Dean of the School of Social Work at the University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL), the region’s only public school of social work. She has dedicated nearly two decades to advancing the school’s mission, supporting its diverse student body, and addressing critical community needs through research and partnerships. Her leadership includes roles as BSW Program Director and Director of the Center for Family Research and Policy.

Research Interests: Dr. Johnson focuses on violence, HIV risk, trauma, PTSD, and substance use among minorities, women, and youth. Her federally funded grants emphasize integrated behavioral health training and substance abuse interventions, with a strong commitment to improving community services for at-risk populations.

Community Leadership: She serves on the boards of St. Louis Social Venture Partners (as Partner, Executive Board Member, and Grant Chair) and Christian Family Services, driving capacity-building initiatives for nonprofits and educational programs targeting disadvantaged youth.
