Sharon Hutchinson

Sharon Hutchinson is a Professor of Epidemiology and Population Health at Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU), affiliated with the School of Health and Life Sciences (SHLS). She joined GCU in 2013 and leads research on blood-borne viruses (BBVs), particularly hepatitis C. Her work integrates epidemiological studies, surveillance, and economic modeling to inform public health policy, including Scotland’s Action Plan on Hepatitis C, which has been globally recognized as a best practice model.

Education: BSc (Hons), MSc, PhD, CStat (Chartered Statistician), HonMFPH (Honorary Membership of the Faculty of Public Health).

Research focuses on hepatitis C prevention, drug-related harm reduction, and infectious disease control. Key projects include evaluations of Scotland’s drug-related death interventions and the UK’s first safer drug consumption facility. She advises the World Health Organization (WHO) and European bodies on infectious disease policy.
