Dr. Sharon Finney serves as Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Accounting & Finance at Morgan State University since 1999. She holds a PhD in Accounting from Georgia State University (1989), an M.A.S. from the University of Illinois (1974), and a B.S. from North Carolina A&T State University (1973). Her research focuses on accounting education, strategic planning implementation, mergers and acquisitions in the oil and gas industry, and best practices for accredited accounting programs.
Her work explores topics such as intangible assets valuation, corporate governance ethics in stock options, and the impact of IFRS on M&A activities. Dr. Finney has contributed to academic journals like CPA Journal, Journal of Corporate Accounting and Finance, and Journal of International Academy for Case Studies. Her research emphasizes bridging theoretical accounting concepts with practical applications in education and industry.
Dr. Finney’s leadership in academic programs includes advancing organizational structures for accredited business schools and developing teaching strategies to enhance student performance. She has presented at conferences such as the National Association of Black Accountants and the American Accounting Association, contributing to professional discourse on fraud detection and ethical accounting practices.
