Shannon Turley, PhD is Associate Professor of Microbiology & Immunobiology at Harvard Medical School and researcher in the Department of Cancer Immunology at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI). Her laboratory focuses on dendritic cell-mediated immune responses in type 1 diabetes and pancreatic cancer.
Her research examines how tissue microenvironments influence dendritic cell development and function, particularly regarding self-antigen presentation. Using transgenic mouse models and high-resolution imaging, her lab studies endocytosis, antigen transport, and processing mechanisms. Key innovations include mouse models targeting NF-kappa B pathway mutations and novel fluorescent proteins to dendritic cells.
Dr. Turley received her PhD from Yale University in 1999 followed by postdoctoral training in immunology at Joslin Diabetes Center. She joined Harvard Medical School and DFCI in 2004 as Assistant Professor before advancing to Associate Professor. Her work aims to develop frameworks for modulating immune responses in cancer and autoimmune disorders.
