Shannon Self-Brown is a Distinguished University Professor and Chair of Health Policy and Behavioral Sciences at Georgia State University School of Public Health. She co-directs the National SafeCare Training and Research Center (NSTRC) and contributes to the National Center on Child Trafficking.
She holds a PhD in Clinical Psychology from Louisiana State University (2004), an MA in Counseling Psychology from University of West Florida (1997), and a BA in Psychology from University of West Florida (1995). Her research focuses on child maltreatment prevention and evidence-based program implementation.
Self-Brown has published over 130 peer-reviewed articles on youth trauma, violence exposure, and parenting interventions. Her work examines virtual delivery models for parenting programs, trauma responses in commercially exploited youth, and implementation strategies for evidence-based practices.
She has secured funding from NIH, CDC, and PCORI, including projects on smoke-free home interventions and refugee family support systems. Self-Brown serves on editorial boards including Child Maltreatment journal.
