Shannon McMurtrey serves as Associate Professor of Cyber-Risk Management at Drury University's Breech School of Business Administration, a role he has held since joining the faculty in 2016 and advancing to Associate Professor in 2022. Previously, he taught at Missouri State University from 2002, where he directed the Computer Information Systems graduate program and pioneered cybersecurity degree initiatives.
His educational credentials include a B.S. (1992) and M.B.A. (1996) from Missouri State University, culminating in a Ph.D. from Nova Southeastern University (2010). With over 25 years of industry experience spanning e-commerce, healthcare technology, and cybersecurity, he has founded or co-founded three operating companies in these sectors.
Dr. McMurtrey's research focuses on artificial intelligence applications within cybersecurity frameworks, evidenced by publications in U.S. and European venues. His expertise is reinforced by industry certifications in network penetration, incident handling, web application security, and industrial control systems.
Notable recognitions include the 2017 Security Professional of the Year award from the Association of Information Technology Professionals and a Missouri State University College of Business research award. He established cybersecurity degree programs at both Missouri State and Drury Universities, shaping curriculum development in this critical field.
