Shannon Corrigan is a Principal Research Fellow and Lead of the OceanOmics Centre at the UWA Oceans Institute, The University of Western Australia. Her work focuses on marine genomics, CRISPR applications, and environmental DNA (eDNA) analysis, contributing to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to biodiversity and ecological sustainability.
Her research interests include genome assembly techniques for marine vertebrates, CRISPR-driven environmental monitoring, and addressing seafood mislabeling to promote sustainable consumer choices. She collaborates extensively with international teams on projects like the chromosome-level genome assembly of the spangled emperor fish and evaluating taxonomic classifiers for marine vertebrate studies.
- Key projects: eDNA taxonomic evaluation, CRISPR-based environmental DNA processing, marine vertebrate genomics
- Notable contributions: Pioneering genome assembly standards for marine species, exposing seafood mislabeling impacts
- Labs/Teams: OceanOmics Centre, UWA Oceans Institute research groups
Her work has been widely cited and gained attention through policy discussions and media coverage, particularly regarding seafood sustainability challenges.
