Dr. Shannon Clark is a Professor and Associate Director of the Residency Program in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Texas Medical Branch. She is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and subspecialty Maternal-Fetal Medicine by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Dr. Clark received her medical degree from the University of Louisville School of Medicine, Louisville, Kentucky. She completed her residency at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, and completed a fellowship at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, TX.
Dr. Clark's clinical interests focus on Maternal Disease, Fetal Abnormalities, and Pharmacology in Pregnancy. Her research interests include Pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of drugs in pregnancy, smoking in pregnancy, thyroid disease in pregnancy, and morbidity of Cesarean hysterectomy. The fingerprint of her research shows strong emphasis on Pharmacokinetics, Pregnant Women, During Pregnancy, Vomiting in Pregnancy, Nausea, and related pharmaceutical topics. Her work often involves clinical trials and pharmacological studies related to pregnancy complications, with particular attention to medication management for conditions like hyperemesis gravidarum, diabetes, and hypertension during pregnancy.

Dr. Clark serves as Principal Investigator on multiple research projects, including the Childhood Follow-up Study of Neurodevelopment and Obesity after Perinatal Exposure to Adjunctive Azithromycin Prophylaxis for Cesarean Delivery, and the Childhood Pulmonary and Related Outcomes after Perinatal Exposure to Adjunctive Azithromycin Prophylaxis for Cesarean Delivery (C/SOAP Follow-up Study II). These projects, funded by the University of Alabama - Birmingham, focus on long-term outcomes of children exposed to azithromycin during cesarean delivery.
Dr. Clark leads research efforts in Maternal-Fetal Medicine with a particular focus on pharmacological interventions during pregnancy and their effects on maternal and fetal outcomes, collaborating extensively with national research networks including the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development Obstetric-Fetal Pharmacology Research Centers Network.
