Shannan Hibbard is an Assistant Professor of Vocal Music Education at Wayne State University, where she teaches undergraduate music education courses and coordinates student teaching experiences in vocal and general music. Previously, she served as adjunct faculty at Eastern Michigan University and the University of Michigan-Flint.

Her research focuses on trauma and equity in music education, preservice music teacher development, creativity, and spirituality. She advocates for music education as a tool for fostering justice, freedom, and expression, drawing from her 20+ years of classroom teaching in Detroit's public, charter, and private schools.

Dr. Hibbard is an active presenter at regional, national, and international music education conferences, including engagements in the United States, Brazil, and Scotland. She currently serves as President of the Michigan Music Education Association (MMEA) and co-chair of the Michigan Music Conference (MMC). Her pedagogical approach is shaped by formative experiences in a cappella church traditions and diverse musical practices spanning traditional choirs, Ghanaian music, and contemporary opera.
