Shanjun Li is a Professor of Applied Economics and Policy and holds the Kenneth L. Robinson Chair at Cornell University's Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management. He is affiliated with the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) and Resources for the Future (RFF). His research focuses on environmental and energy economics, urban/transportation economics, and China's economy, aiming to inform evidence-based policy. He co-directs the Cornell Institute for China Economic Research (CICER) and serves as a co-editor for the International Journal of Industrial Organization and Journal of Public Economics. He earned his Ph.D. from Duke University in 2007. In 2025, he will join Stanford University's Doerr School of Sustainability and Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies.
His research examines sustainability challenges in China and global implications, including policy design for pollution reduction, urban transportation efficiency, and industrial innovation. Notable contributions include studies on air pollution costs, vehicle license lotteries, and electric vehicle market dynamics. His work bridges empirical analysis and policy relevance, addressing critical issues in environmental protection, economic reform, and global development.
Prof. Li teaches courses such as Environmental Economics and Econometrics at Cornell. He actively guides PhD students through research methodologies, coding practices, and academic writing. His professional network includes prominent journals and institutions, reflecting his leadership in applied economics research.
