Shane Sawyer is a Term Lecturer and PhD candidate in Mathematics at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, within the College of Arts and Sciences. His research focuses on numerical analysis of fractional PDEs, high-performance computing, and machine learning applications in mathematical frameworks. He holds a BSc (3.8/4.0) and MEng (3.7/4.0) in Computational Engineering and Applied Mathematics from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.

Recent Publications: His work includes HPC-BLAST acceleration for bioinformatics, finite volume flow solvers, and aerospace CFD simulations. These articles reflect trends in computational methods for complex systems and parallel computing optimizations.
Awards: Recipient of the Winston L. Massey Memorial Mathematics Award (2006) and Outstanding Senior Award (2005).
Teaching & Research Experience: Graduate Teaching Assistant (2020–Present) leading flipped-classroom College Algebra courses. Previous roles include research on machine learning foundations (2019–2020) and bioinformatics acceleration (2016–2019). Collaborative projects with Oak Ridge National Lab and academic partners.
