Shane Grant is a Lecturer in Irish at the Department of Arts, South East Technological University (SETU). He holds a PhD in Modern Irish (Nua-Ghaeilge) and MA in Applied Linguistics from Mary Immaculate College, University of Limerick, alongside qualifications in Translation Studies and Irish Medium Education. His research focuses on contemporary Irish poetry, new speakers of Irish, translation studies, and applied linguistics. He has extensive experience in Gaeltacht language planning through roles as Research Officer with Údarás na Gaeltachta and Tascfhórsa Uíbh Ráthaigh.

His research investigates the intersection of contemporary Irish poetry with sociolinguistic dynamics in Gaeltacht regions, including studies on new speakers and Irish language policy. Recent work includes commissioned reports on oral Irish language arts and analyses of cultural narratives in modern Irish literature. Teaching spans undergraduate and postgraduate levels, covering Irish language proficiency, 20th/21st-century prose, and interdisciplinary studies in Irish language contexts.
Professional activities include invited talks on Irish language poetry and policy, such as engagements with the Gaeltacht Language Planning Network and academic interviews with prominent writers like Mícheál Ó Siochrú. He has served as an external examiner for Irish medium education programs and contributed to language revitalization initiatives through collaborative research projects.
