Professor Shane Bullock serves as the Head of the School of Rural Health at Monash University, leading its educational, research, and engagement activities to improve health outcomes in rural and regional communities. He holds a Bachelor of Science (Honours) and a PhD in pharmacology from Monash University and has over two decades of experience training health professionals in regional settings. Previously, he was Director of Monash Rural Health Churchill and Deputy Head of School of Rural Health, overseeing foundational medical education programs. His research focuses on pharmacology and pathophysiology education, digital strategies in medical education, and rural health workforce development. He co-authored three textbooks: Fundamentals of Pharmacology, Principles of Pathophysiology, and Psychopharmacology for Health Professionals.
Professor Bullock has led multiple projects, including the Murray-Darling Medical Schools Network collaboration and initiatives expanding rural health training in aged care and mental health. He has published widely in journals like Rural and Remote Health and Medical Education, contributing to UN Sustainable Development Goals addressing health equity and quality education.
His work emphasizes improving medical education curricula, assessment methods, and rural healthcare access. Projects include tele-mental health service evaluations during the pandemic and workforce training programs to address rural healthcare shortages.
