Shan Xiao

Dr. Shan Xiao is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Management Information Systems at Gonzaga University's College of Business Administration, where she has taught since fall 2021. Her academic journey includes a Ph.D. in Management Information Systems from Mississippi State University, an M.S. from Middle Tennessee State University, and a B.A. from Dalian Minzu University, China.

Dr. Xiao's research focuses on cybersecurity behaviors, particularly how persuasive communication strategies affect information security compliance and data privacy decisions. She applies neurophysiological approaches to understand workplace information protection motivation and has explored cross-cultural differences in security messaging effectiveness.

Her publications span cybersecurity compliance, privacy trade-offs, and IT adoption studies. Key trends include investigating mindfulness-based organizational controls, speech act theory in security communication, and infrastructure's role in security knowledge dissemination.

Dr. Xiao teaches System Analysis & Design and Introduction to Management Information Systems. Prior to her academic career, she spent six years in information systems at Hewlett Packard, bringing practical industry insights to her teaching and research.
