Shan He is an Adjunct Senior Research Fellow in the Faculty of Science and Technology's Engineering department. He holds a PhD from Flinders University, Australia, and has extensive international experience in academia and industry across Australia, New Zealand, Italy, and China. His research focuses on value-adding utilization of bioresources, particularly in food development and sustainable materials. Key achievements include 72 peer-reviewed publications (52 as first/corresponding author), 1 book, and 15 patent applications (5 granted). He serves as an editor for Frontiers in Marine Science and Frontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology.
Research interests include: 1) Healthy food development using bioresources like protein hydrolysates and seaweed extracts, and 2) Sustainable materials such as biodegradable films and graphene oxide from kombucha cellulose. He aims to transition bioresources from cost centers to profit centers through innovation. Dr. He contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to sustainable consumption and production (SDG 12) and responsible consumption (SDG 12).
His work has led to collaborations globally and impactful applications in food technology and environmental sustainability. He actively seeks partnerships to advance these research missions.
