Shamsuddeen Muhammad

Shamsuddeen Muhammad is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science at Bayero University, Nigeria, and an Advanced Research Fellow and Google DeepMind Academic Fellow at Imperial College London. He also serves as a Visiting Lecturer at York St John University.

Dr. Muhammad specializes in Natural Language Processing (NLP) for low-resource African languages, with additional expertise in Knowledge Representation, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, and Image Processing. His work addresses NLP challenges in underrepresented languages and promotes diversity in technology.

He co-founded the HausaNLP research group to advance Hausa language NLP and established the Arewa Data Science Academy to provide free data science and AI education in Nigeria. Dr. Muhammad also contributes to teaching and international collaboration across institutions in the UK and Nigeria.
