Shailaja Paik is Taft Distinguished Professor of History at the University of Cincinnati, with affiliations in Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies and Asian Studies. A 2024 MacArthur Fellow, she directs the Ambedkar-King Justice Initiative.
Education:

Her research examines caste, gender, and sexuality intersections in modern India, particularly Dalit women's experiences. Work emphasizes anti-caste resistance, social transformation, and human rights frameworks. Current projects analyze normative sexuality construction and comparative race-caste-indigeneity studies.
Publications demonstrate sustained focus on Dalit women's agency through education, performance traditions, and feminist movements. Recent articles explore cultural representations of gender and caste in cinema and literature.
