Shahlaa Al Wakeel is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Saint Martin's University, affiliated with the Hal and Inge Marcus School of Engineering. She earned her Ph.D. in Structural Engineering and Structural Mechanics from the University of Colorado Boulder in 2017.
Her research focuses on fracture mechanics, material modeling, experimental testing, and mechanics of anisotropic materials. She investigates how microstructure engineering affects mechanical behavior in composite materials, seeking to enhance material reliability through controlled particle arrangement.
Dr. Al Wakeel teaches courses spanning thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, material science, and fracture mechanics at undergraduate and graduate levels, including specialized courses in the NCIAE-Saint Martin's Joint Degree Program.
Her publications consistently explore fracture toughness enhancement through innovative material designs. Recent conference participation includes presentations at ACerS, MIT-EMI, and FraMCos conferences focused on ceramics and fracture mechanics.
