Shahbaz Sheikh is a Professor in the DAN Department of Management & Organizational Studies at Western University's Faculty of Social Science. He is also a Senior Fellow at the Network for Economic and Social Trends (NEST) and serves on Western’s Joint Pension Board. His research focuses on Corporate Finance, Corporate Governance, and Institutional Economics, with a particular emphasis on CEO power dynamics, corporate social responsibility (CSR), and executive compensation. He has published extensively in top-tier finance journals and is an award-winning educator.
Education: PhD in International Economics and Finance from Brandeis University (2004), M.S. in International Economics and Finance (2004), and prior degrees from Quaid-i-Azam University (Pakistan). He has held academic positions at Western University since 2005, progressing from Assistant Professor to Professor.
Research Interests: His work explores how CEO power, market competition, and governance structures influence firm leverage, payout policies, and innovation. Recent studies highlight the interplay between CSR and external financing, executive compensation linked to CSR, and the impact of managerial incentives on risk-taking.
Articles Trends: Over 30 peer-reviewed publications since 2000, with a focus on CSR, CEO power, and corporate governance. Recent articles (2018–2024) emphasize CSR’s role in financing, risk management, and firm value, alongside CEO decision-making under competitive pressures.
- Awards: Multiple teaching awards including the CMA Teaching Award (three times), Dean’s Award for Excellence in Teaching, and Benjamin Franklin Parr Fellowship.
- Grants: Recipient of DanCap Private Equity Research Awards and grants supporting his work on CSR and governance.
