Sha Xin Wei is a Professor at The European Graduate School (EGS) and currently serves as Director of the School of Arts, Media, and Engineering and Director of Synthesis at Arizona State University (ASU), USA. He holds a mathematics degree from Harvard University and completed his MA and PhD at Stanford University, focusing on interdisciplinary intersections of mathematics, computer science, and philosophy.
Previously, he was an Associate Professor of Fine Arts and Computer Science at Concordia University (2005–2013) and founded the Topological Lab at Georgia Institute of Technology (2001). His research emphasizes topological approaches to media, art, and technology, blending ethico-aesthetic and technoscientific perspectives. He co-edits Artificial Intelligence and Society and Creative Interfaces and Computer Graphics.
Notable works include his monograph Poiesis and Enchantment in Topological Matter (2013), and art projects like TGarden, Hubbub, and Sponge art group (founded in 1997). His creative and academic work explores installation art, computational media, and the philosophical underpinnings of materiality.
Awards include the Canada Research Chair in Media Arts and Sciences. He actively collaborates across disciplines, leading initiatives at ASU to integrate arts, engineering, and technology for innovative human experiences.
