Şevin Yildiz is an Assistant Professor in the Urban Planning and Policy Department at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). Her work focuses on ecological planning, urban design, and climate change adaptation, particularly in metropolitan fringe ecosystems. She is actively involved in the Chicago Department of Planning's River Ecology Task Force since 2020.
Research Interests: Her research examines how urban planning conceptualizes and negotiates ecological and social values in rapidly urbanizing areas. Key projects include spatial analysis of the New Jersey Meadowlands' land use conflicts and a comparative study of sub-center urban design in Tokyo, Mumbai, and New York. She investigates transitory land-to-water ecosystems in global cities like Amsterdam and New York.
Grants & Collaborations: Her work has been supported by Harvard University’s Dumbarton Oaks, the New Jersey Historical Commission, and Barnard College. She previously collaborated with the EPA Brownfields Redevelopment team on sustainable neighborhood grants.
Labs & Teams: She contributes to the Chicago Department of Planning's River Ecology Task Force, focusing on urban-river interactions and ecological resilience.
