Seth Stein Lejacq serves as an Assistant Professor in the History Department within the School of Arts and Sciences at Hunter College, City University of New York. His academic home is firmly established in historical studies with a specialized focus on European history.
LeJacq received his BA from Cornell University and completed his PhD at Johns Hopkins University, establishing a strong foundation in historical methodology and research.
His research interests center on early modern Britain, the history of medicine, and gender and sexuality studies, with a particular emphasis on queer maritime history focusing on Britain's navy during the age of sail. This unique intersection of maritime, military, and queer history represents a significant contribution to understanding marginalized experiences in historical naval contexts.
His scholarly output includes the edited sourcebook Sexual and Gender Difference in the British Navy, 1690-1900 (Routledge, 2024), along with articles published in prestigious journals including Social History of Medicine, Journal for Maritime Research, International Journal of Maritime History, and Journal of the History of Sexuality. His work consistently explores the intersections of gender, sexuality, and institutional power structures.
