Dr. Seth Hays is an Associate Professor in the Department of Bioengineering at the University of Texas at Dallas, affiliated with the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science. His research focuses on neuroplasticity mechanisms and translational therapies for neurological disorders. He holds a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering from UT Austin (2007) and a Ph.D. in Neuroscience from UT Southwestern (2012).
Research interests emphasize vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) to enhance neuroplasticity for treating stroke, spinal cord injury, and PTSD. Key projects include optimizing VNS parameters for rehabilitation efficacy, investigating molecular mechanisms underlying recovery, and developing closed-loop neuromodulation systems. Collaborative efforts extend to clinical translation of VNS therapies.
Dr. Hays has authored over 50 peer-reviewed articles on VNS applications, neural plasticity, and neurorehabilitation. His work is supported by grants from the National Institutes of Health and the American Heart Association. He maintains an active laboratory focused on biomedical engineering solutions for neurological disease.
