Previously, he held academic positions at Istanbul New Century University and Erciyes University, progressing from Doctor Lecturer to Associate Professor and ultimately to Professor. His academic career spans over three decades with continuous contributions to dental education and research.
Dr. Kesim's research interests primarily focus on the intricate relationship between periodontal health and systemic conditions, particularly diabetes mellitus. His work extensively examines cytokine levels in periodontal disease, the effects of natural compounds like propolis and grape seed extract on periodontitis, and the connections between oral health and overall well-being across different age groups. His research portfolio demonstrates a strong commitment to understanding how periodontal conditions interact with metabolic disorders, nutritional status, and quality of life factors.
His publication record reveals consistent scholarly output with recent articles (2022-2023) exploring connections between oral health, diabetes management, and quality of life factors in diverse patient populations. The research shows an evolution from more basic experimental periodontitis models to comprehensive studies examining oral-systemic health connections in community settings.
Dr. Kesim has supervised numerous doctoral students whose thesis work reflects his research interests, including studies on periodontal treatment effects in diabetic patients, seasonal agricultural workers' oral health, and biochemical parameters in various patient populations. His administrative experience includes multiple terms as Department Head at both Beykent University and Erciyes University, along with faculty board membership and commission presidency roles.
