Sertel ALTUN serves as a Lecturer in the Department of Educational Sciences at Yildiz Technical University's Faculty of Education, where she has taught undergraduate, master's, and doctoral courses since 2005. Her institutional role includes thesis supervision for graduate students and active participation in national and international research projects.
Her academic journey began with a Bachelor's degree from Yildiz Technical University's Faculty of Education, Department of Educational Sciences, followed by consecutive Master's and Doctoral degrees in Curriculum and Instruction at the university's Social Sciences Institute.
Dr. ALTUN's research centers on curriculum development and instructional design, with pioneering work in Understanding by Design (UbD) methodology. She champions teacher-led school development models through her 'Tasarımcı Öğretmen' (Teacher as Designer) learning community, emphasizing that sustainable educational change requires teachers to co-create and implement classroom-specific models. Her scholarship spans teacher education, differentiated instruction, growth mindset strategies, and 21st-century skills integration across diverse subjects.
Analysis of her recent publications reveals a strong focus on UbD applications in science, mathematics, and language education, alongside investigations into growth mindset impacts, curriculum-policy alignment, and technology-mediated learning. Her work consistently bridges theoretical frameworks with practical classroom implementation, particularly in Turkish educational contexts.
As an academic advisor, she has successfully supervised 4 doctoral and 18 master's theses. Her project portfolio includes serving as Methodology Education Project Coordinator for Turkey's Educational Volunteers Foundation and as Researcher in a European Union Council project, with ongoing national and international collaborations.
She founded the 'Tasarımcı Öğretmen' learning community to foster collaborative teacher development, conducting workshops nationwide on school-based program development, instructional design, assessment strategies, and curriculum implementation for educators and administrators.
