Research Interests: Sergio Puig focuses on international economic law, investment arbitration, and indigenous rights within global trade frameworks. His work critiques institutional biases in dispute resolution (e.g., affiliation bias in arbitration) and explores reforms to enhance accountability. He also examines the intersection of trade law and environmental/sustainability concerns, such as the USMCA’s regulatory impacts and green investment treaties.
Publications Trends: Puig’s recent articles address regional legal dynamics (e.g., Latin American international law), ISDS reform, and the role of indigenous communities in shaping economic law. He critically evaluates the WTO’s adjudicative reach and proposes mechanisms to balance state sovereignty with investor protections. His work often bridges legal theory with empirical analysis, such as network studies of arbitration markets.
Grants & Labs: As co-founder and Vice-President of tradelab.org, he supports pro bono legal assistance for developing nations in trade disputes. His grants include funding for interdisciplinary research on supply chain accountability and transnational corporate liability.
