Sergio Gomez Olarte

Dr. Sergio Gomez Olarte is a Scientist in the Department of Environmental Immunology at the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ) in Leipzig, Germany. He joined UFZ in 2024 after completing his doctorate at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU). His research focuses on understanding how environmental factors disrupt immune homeostasis and contribute to inflammatory diseases.

Dr. Gomez Olarte's research interests include:

• Understanding how environmental factors, such as chemicals and pollutants, can disrupt immune homeostasis, thereby inducing chronic inflammation, autoimmunity, and allergy
• Development of advanced co-culture models of human trophoblast and immune cells to study the effects of Endocrine-Disrupting Chemicals (EDCs)
• Modeling how exposure to EDCs modulates the immune response as a key mechanism for the onset of inflammatory and metabolic diseases

His recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on the intersection of environmental exposures and immune responses, particularly examining how chemical mixtures impact human health and reproduction. His work often involves collaboration with international research teams and utilizes data from birth cohort studies.

Dr. Gomez Olarte has received notable recognition for his research, including a scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and a Starting Doctoral Stipend from the German Research Foundation.

As part of the ENDOMIX project team, Dr. Gomez Olarte contributes to cutting-edge research on endocrine disruptors and their effects on human health, with particular emphasis on reproductive immunology and the development of methodologies to assess the health impacts of chemical mixtures.
