Sergio Dellavalle

Sergio Dellavalle is a Professor of Public Law and State Theory at the University of Turin, Italy. He holds visiting appointments as a Fellow at St Edmund’s College (University of Cambridge) and as a Senior Research Affiliate at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law (MPIL) in Heidelberg. His research focuses on political and legal philosophy, constitutional law, and international law theory. Dellavalle has held prestigious fellowships including the Marie-Curie Fellowship and DAAD Fellowship, and has lectured globally at institutions like Tel Aviv University, Rutgers University, and the Lauterpacht Centre for International Law.

His recent work explores themes such as rights attribution to non-human entities (e.g., nature and sentient animals) and the evolution of order concepts in legal frameworks. At Durham Law School, he investigates revised recognition-based theories of rights for non-human animals and the implications for legal/moral entitlements in nature. He is also analyzing how contemporary international relations reshape conceptions of national and global order.
