Sergei Grigoryev is a Professor in the Department of Molecular and Precision Medicine at the Penn State Cancer Institute. His research focuses on chromatin structure, nucleosome organization, and epigenetic mechanisms. He has led multiple National Science Foundation (NSF) and National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) funded projects, including studies on nucleosome chain folding and neuronal chromatin analysis. Grigoryev's work contributes to Sustainable Development Goals related to health and innovation.
His research interests span molecular biology, genetics, and biochemistry, with a particular emphasis on chromatin architecture and its functional implications. Recent studies include investigations into retinal cell chromatin folding and histone citrullination effects. Grigoryev has published extensively in journals like Nucleic Acids Research and Molecular Cell.
- Active Grant: The four dimensions of nucleosome chain folding (NSF, 2019–2025)
- Notable Project: Nanoscale cryo-ET analysis of neuronal chromatin condensates (NIDA, 2022–2024)
His interdisciplinary approach bridges structural biology and cell biology, advancing understanding of epigenetic states and tissue development.
