Serena Merrino is an Associate Professor (Teaching) at the School of Slavonic and East European Studies (SSEES), University College London (UCL). She coordinates the BA programme in Economics and Business and teaches courses in macroeconomics and political economy. Her research focuses on macroeconomic theory, financial institutions, climate change impacts, and social change. She holds a PhD from SOAS University of London (2019), an MSc in Macroeconomic Policy and Financial Markets from Barcelona GSE, and degrees from the University of Rome Tor Vergata and the Universidad Católica Argentina (Buenos Aires).
As a Fellow of the South African Reserve Bank (SARB), she researches the macroeconomic effects of climate change and participates in the Network for Greening the Financial System. She also serves as a consultant to the United Nations University (WIDER) and is affiliated with the Reteaching Economics network and the Post-Keynesian Economics Society. Her work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals 13 (Climate Action) and 10 (Reduced Inequalities).
Dr. Merrino’s academic contributions bridge economic theory with practical policy, emphasizing sustainable development and equitable growth. She actively engages in interdisciplinary research, particularly on climate adaptation strategies and financial system resilience.
