Seongyeon Ko

Seongyeon Ko is an Assistant Professor of Korean Language and Linguistics at Queens College, City University of New York. He holds a PhD from Cornell University and MA/BA degrees from Seoul National University. He directs the Korean language program and advises East Asian Studies majors.

His research investigates phonological systems of Korean and Northeast Asian languages, particularly retracted tongue root harmony and vowel evolution. He conducts fieldwork on endangered languages and is preparing books on Korean phonetics/phonology and Jeju Korean. Current projects include acoustic studies of vowel systems in Altaic languages.
