Seng Chong

Dr. Seng Chong is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Engineering and Sustainable Development at De Montfort University, within the Faculty of Computing, Engineering and Media. He is a member of the Mechatronics Research Group at the Advanced Manufacturing Processes and Mechatronics Centre (AMPMC). Dr. Chong serves as the Programme Leader for MSc Mechatronics and MSc Project Coordinator, and acts as Year 1 Tutor for BEng Mechanical Engineering and BEng Mechatronics.

His research expertise spans several key domains in engineering and technology:

His recent publications highlight a strong focus on integrating simulation, digital manufacturing, and system engineering, particularly through hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) techniques and model-driven approaches. Research themes include enhancing 3D printing quality, improving bone implant materials via finite element analysis, and developing intelligent product lifecycle systems. His work bridges theoretical modeling with practical implementation in manufacturing and healthcare technologies.

Dr. Chong has led externally funded research as Principal Investigator, including a DTI Global Watch Mission to Russia on mechatronics applications, and internally funded projects such as a feasibility study on collaborative virtual learning for surgical teams and the formation of an Assisted Living Collaborative Research Network. His teaching includes Electrical and Electronic Principles at undergraduate level and Mechanics of Machines and Control System Engineering at postgraduate level.
