Selen AKBULUT is a Lecturer in the Department of Food Technology at Uskudar University, where she has been working since 2024. She completed her doctoral studies in Food Engineering at Yildiz Technical University in 2024 and holds concurrent administrative roles as Head of the Food Technology Program and Student Adviser for multiple undergraduate cohorts.
Education:
- BSc in Food Engineering from Süleyman Demirel University (2014)
- MSc in Food Engineering from Süleyman Demirel University (2017)
- PhD in Food Engineering from Yildiz Technical University (2024)
Her research spans Food Science, Food Chemistry, Food Microbiology, Food Packaging, and Food Biochemistry, with concentrated expertise in microplastic migration from food packaging and thermal processing impacts on meat product quality. She actively investigates contaminants in beverage systems and preservation techniques, contributing to food safety discourse through international conferences and peer-reviewed publications.
Analysis of her publications reveals a cohesive research trajectory focused on emerging food safety threats, particularly microplastic contamination pathways in beverages and mineral waters, alongside traditional food engineering challenges like thermal treatment optimization for canned meats. These works bridge environmental science and food technology, addressing UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health and sustainable consumption.
As an academic leader, she advises over 150 undergraduate students, chairs university commissions including the Curriculum Development Committee, and directs a TUBITAK-funded project on microplastic detection in mineral waters. Her teaching portfolio includes core courses such as Food Microbiology, Dairy Products Technology, and Meat Product Technology, reflecting her multidisciplinary expertise.
