معرفی
Sebastián Barrientos Baeza is an active Postdoctoral Fellow at Lund University's Faculty of Medicine with multiple research appointments: Postdoctoral Fellow in Integrative Neurophysiology, Postdoctoral Fellow at the Neuronano Research Center (NRC), Researcher in the Division of Translational Cancer Research, and Visiting Research Fellow in Molecular Tumor Pathology. His work bridges neuroscience and oncology with a focus on translational medical research.
His research interests center on neuroscience, neurophysiology, electrophysiology, and cognition, with specific expertise in basal ganglia function, Parkinson's disease mechanisms, and cancer research. His fingerprint reveals dominant research themes including Basal Ganglia (100%), Parkinson's Disease (72%), Striatum (50%), Brain function (46%), and Functional Connectivity (44%).
His eight recent publications (2023-2025) demonstrate a clear research trajectory investigating neurophysiological mechanisms in Parkinson's disease models and cancer therapeutics. The articles reveal strong methodological consistency using rodent models and electrophysiological techniques to study cortico-basal ganglia circuits, while more recent work extends into advanced cancer models using organoid technology. Key thematic clusters include Parkinson's disease psychosis treatments, levodopa-induced dyskinesia mechanisms, psychedelic neuropharmacology, and targeted cancer therapies.
As Principal Investigator for the project The function of the working memory circuits following irradiation to the growing brain (2017-2019), he secured funding from Thorsten och Elsa Segerfalks Stiftelse and The Royal Physiographic Society in Lund. He actively participates in academic discourse, recently speaking at the LUCC Breast and Imaging & Nuclear/Radiology Retreat in March 2025.
Barrientos Baeza conducts his research within Lund University's Neuronano Research Center ecosystem, collaborating extensively on interdisciplinary projects spanning neurophysiology and cancer research. His work shows increasing translational impact with significant media coverage, including pickup by 42 news outlets for recent publications and substantial social media engagement.
