Sebastien Fuchs

Dr. Sebastien Fuchs is an Assistant Professor of Pharmacology at the Department of Biomedical Sciences, Western University of Health Sciences, part of the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific. He holds a PhD from University Paris VII/College de France (2002) and an MD from University Paris VI/European Hospital Georges Pompidou (2003). His career includes postdoctoral training at Emory University (2002-2006) and academic roles at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center (2008-2013) and Emory University (2006-2008).

His research focuses on angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) biology, investigating its roles in cardiovascular physiology, organ fibrosis, Alzheimer’s disease, and immunology. Key areas include ACE’s non-traditional functions beyond blood pressure regulation, such as peptide presentation, extracellular matrix control, and male fertility. He has developed expertise in molecular biology, animal genetic models, and in vivo experimentation.

Dr. Fuchs has secured grants including the NIH/NHLBI Pathway to Independence Award (2006-2011) and the CART Fund for Alzheimer Research (2012-2014). He has published extensively on ACE’s role in fibrosis, Alzheimer’s, and infectious disease. Notable awards include the National Defense Bronze Medal (French Army, 1997-1998) and multiple fellowships from organizations like the American Heart Association and National Kidney Foundation.

Teaching responsibilities include Pharmacology and organ system courses (CARDIO, RENAL, RESP, REPRO). He actively mentors students and promotes research engagement, with a focus on translational applications of ACE biology.
