Dr. Sebastian Sprick is a Senior Lecturer in Pure and Applied Chemistry at the University of Strathclyde, United Kingdom. His research focuses on developing organic photocatalytic materials for sustainability applications, particularly in solar fuel production. He obtained his PhD in 2013 from the University of Manchester under Prof. Michael Turner, followed by postdoctoral work at the University of Liverpool with Prof. Andrew Cooper.
Research Areas: Specializing in conjugated polymers, photocatalysis, and solar fuels, Sprick designs materials for water splitting and CO2 reduction using sunlight. His work spans conjugated microporous polymers, organic frameworks, and large-scale demonstrator devices.
Projects:
- Strathclyde-led Network in Health and Engineering Biology with Thailand (British Council, 2025-2027)
- Photocatalytic conversion of feedstocks into building blocks (British Council, 2024-2026)
Scientific Contributions: With 82 research outputs and 79 activities, he leads in hydrogen evolution and photocatalyst optimization. Recent work includes mechanistic studies via time-resolved spectroscopy and international collaborations in China and Thailand.
Awards:
- Faculty of Science Teaching Excellence Award (2024)
- Fellow of Higher Education Academy (FHEA) (2022)
