Sebastian Sewerin is a Senior Lecturer and former Senior Researcher (2015–2023) at ETH Zurich’s Energy and Technology Policy Group. His work focuses on low-carbon energy policy, policy design, and feedback mechanisms in climate and energy governance. He holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of Cologne and has held visiting positions at Yale University and the University of East Anglia. His research explores how policy mixes evolve over time and interact with technological changes, particularly in lithium-ion battery manufacturing and renewable energy sectors.

Publications Highlight: His recent work includes analyzing fossil fuel phase-out politics in Norway, developing text-as-data tools for policy analysis (POLIANNA dataset), and exploring policy continuation mechanisms. These studies emphasize how policy design choices influence ambition levels and sustainability outcomes.
Contributions: Contributed to UN Environment’s 6th Global Environment Outlook and collaborated with international organizations like the Tyndall Centre. His research has been published in top journals such as Nature Energy, Policy Sciences, and Climate Policy.
