Sebastian Kearney is a Lecturer and PhD student in the Department of Theatre & Performance Studies at the University of Missouri. Their research explores intersections between performance studies, comedy studies, and trauma studies, with additional focuses on decoloniality, indigenous theatre, and vulnerability in performance. They hold a BA from Western Kentucky University (2013) and an MA from University of Colorado Boulder (2023).

As a theatre artist, Kearney has served as director, lighting designer, actor, and solo performer. Notable acting credits include Standing on Ceremony, Naked Boys Singing!, and Les Liaisons Dangereuses. Favorite design works include The Miss Firecracker Contest and lighting design for dance concerts.
Current research interests emphasize the therapeutic potential of comedy and improvisation as healing mechanisms for trauma, alongside decolonial performance practices.
