Sebastian Gallander is a Lecturer at the Hertie School in Berlin where he teaches Professional Writing for Public Policy to graduate students. He holds a Master's in Public Administration (MPA) from Harvard's John F. Kennedy School of Government, where he was awarded a prestigious fellowship that enabled him to develop expertise in policy communication.
Mr. Gallander's professional journey began at a creative communications agency before transitioning to the non-profit sector. He served as managing director of the Vodafone Foundation, which focused on improving educational opportunities for disadvantaged children, and helped establish the nebenan.de foundation dedicated to strengthening neighborly care in German society.
His professional interests span public policy communication, social issues, and non-profit leadership. Gallander has published extensively on urgent social topics in leading German media outlets including Süddeutsche Zeitung, faz.net, Die Zeit, and Spiegel Online, translating complex policy issues for broader audiences.
He has received recognition including a Harvard fellowship for the John F. Kennedy School of Government, which marked a pivotal point in his career development.
At the Hertie School, Gallander has discovered what he describes as 'the elevating bliss of teaching inspired upcoming public leaders from across the globe,' bringing real-world policy communication experience to the classroom. He lives in Berlin as a professional writer and describes himself humorously as a '(very) unprofessional gardener.'
