Sebastian Davidis is a Researcher at the Hydraulic Engineering Division (VAW) of ETH Zurich, affiliated with the Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering. Since 2019, he has served as an Engineer in the Professorship for Hydraulic Structures. His work focuses on hydraulic structures, sediment dynamics, and hydropower efficiency, including projects like the Koysha HPP spillway investigations and studies on turbine erosion in high-head hydropower plants. Previously, he was a Teaching Assistant (2017–2019) and held roles at engineering firms such as Rothpletz, Lienhard + Cie AG. Davidis holds an M.Sc. and B.Sc. in Civil Engineering from RWTH Aachen University, with research on flow resistance models and sediment transport phenomena.
Education:
- M.Sc. Wirt.-Ing. (Bau.-Ing), RWTH Aachen University (2010–2014)
- B.Sc. Wirt.-Ing. (Bau.-Ing), RWTH Aachen University (2007–2010)
Research interests include optimizing small hydropower plants in sediment-rich rivers, suspended sediment load analysis, and river revitalization strategies. His projects address challenges like hydro-abrasive erosion, turbine efficiency, and flood protection. He has supervised student theses on topics such as hydropower plant design, sediment management, and urban drainage systems.
Membership affiliations include the ASB (Association of Scientific Staff at D-BAUG) and AVETH (Academic Association of Scientific Staff at ETH Zurich).
