Sebastian Canovas Bernabe is an Associate Professor of Physiology at the Universidad de Murcia's Faculty of Nursing. He earned his PhD in 2007 from the same university with a thesis on 'Interacciones homólogas y heterólogas in vitro de gametos porcinos, bovinos y humanos y sus aplicaciones en el estudio de la fecundación.' His research focuses on reproductive physiology, epigenetic reprogramming during early embryo development, and the impact of assisted reproductive technologies (ART) on offspring health.
Key research areas include the role of reproductive fluids in embryo culture, placental development, and molecular mechanisms regulating fertilization. His work spans cattle, pigs, and human models, with a strong emphasis on translational applications in livestock and human fertility.
Notable contributions include studies on zona pellucida hardening, sperm functionality, and the effects of maternal supplementation on fetoplacental vascularity. He leads the 'Physiology of Reproduction' research group and has collaborated on European projects like European Joint Doctorates. His research integrates molecular biology, epigenetics, and animal science to address challenges in assisted reproduction and developmental biology.
