Dr. Sebastian Berger is a Senior Lecturer in Economics at the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol), affiliated with the Faculty of Business and Law and the Department of Accounting, Economics, and Finance. His work bridges Institutional Economics, Ecological Economics, and Business Ethics, with a focus on Heterodox Economics and the social costs of neoliberalism.
- Education: PhD (Economics, University of Bremen, 2007); M.A. (Business Administration/Economics, University of Technology Chemnitz, 2004)
His research examines:
- Social costs of neoliberalism: including works like The Social Costs of Neoliberalism (2017), social cost accounting (2021), and The Social Cost of the Megamachine (2025).
- Heterodox Economics: explored in his co-authored book What is Heterodox Economics? (2019) and edited volumes on institutional and non-equilibrium economics.
- K. William Kapp’s economics: including The Heterodox Theory of Social Costs (2017) and archival research.
