Sebastiaan Steenman is an Associate Professor at the Utrecht University School of Governance and Senior Fellow at the Centre for Academic Teaching and Learning (CAT). He chairs the national Expert Group on Accessibility in Higher Education (ETHO) and leads the university-wide Skills Academy project. His affiliations include the Utrecht University strategic theme Pathways to Sustainability, where he holds the education portfolio, and leadership in the Sustainability Education and Engagement community.
His research focuses on selective admission policies and skill development in higher education, particularly cognitive skills. He spearheaded the Select-UU project (2018-2023), which improved admissions practices at Utrecht University and produced the Handbook on Higher Education Selection. He also contributes to sustainability education initiatives.
He teaches courses in methods and statistics, political philosophy, public policy, and organizational science, while supervising theses. His ancillary activities include involvement in training programs like Strategic Human Resource Management and the Research Master in Public Administration and Organizational Science.
