Sean Walsh

Sean Walsh is an Associate Professor in the Marine Transportation Department at Maine Maritime Academy (MMA), where he has served since 2011 after a distinguished 24-year career in the United States Coast Guard. His expertise spans vessel operations, port security, emergency response, and maritime safety.

His research and professional interests include:

Throughout his Coast Guard service, Captain Walsh earned numerous medals and commendations, as well as public and private sector citations for exceptional service. His training includes specialized areas such as damage control, firefighting, hazardous waste recovery, and critical incident stress management.

He advises on maritime training and professional development and contributes to hands-on education programs at MMA, including training cruises and waterfront operations. He is involved with practical maritime education using the training ship State of Maine and the schooner Bowdoin.

Captain Walsh maintains an active role in maritime education and professional mariner development, supporting both academic and operational training initiatives at MMA.
