Sean R. Roberts is a Professor of International Affairs and Dean of Undergraduate Studies at The George Washington University’s Elliott School of International Affairs. He holds a PhD in Cultural Anthropology (University of Southern California, 2003) and a MA in Visual Anthropology (2001, same institution). His expertise encompasses democratization, governance, human rights, and minority rights in China, Central Asia, and the former Soviet Union.
His research focuses on Uyghur people in China, culminating in his critically acclaimed 2020 book *The War on the Uyghurs*, recognized by Foreign Affairs. He advises development organizations on governance and human rights in post-Soviet regions and frequently engages in media commentary on Central Asian politics and Uyghur issues.
Teaching responsibilities include the IDS program’s cornerstone and capstone courses, along with seminars on indigenous rights and China’s Belt and Road Initiative. His publications span academic journals like *Slavic Review* and policy analyses for USAID.
