Sean Kiley serves as a Lecturer in Law at the Law School, developing innovative interdisciplinary courses focused on legal communication. He teaches two core workshops: one on presentation design and delivery, and another on information design, both integrating communication science theory with collaborative practical application.
His expertise bridges legal advocacy and communication science, emphasizing collaborative creativity, visual thinking, and critical problem-solving for complex legal scenarios. This interdisciplinary approach transforms how lawyers structure arguments and convey information in high-stakes environments.
Kiley's professional recognition includes:
- California Lawyer Attorney of the Year Award for Environmental Litigation
- Public Justice Trial Lawyer of the Year Award – Finalist
- Inaugural CDAA Elkins-Reiter Award for Appellate Advocacy
Prior to academia, he built a distinguished career as a federal law clerk, big law associate at elite firms (Dechert, Coblentz Patch Duffy & Bass), and public-interest trial lawyer. His courtroom experience includes winning a landmark 3-month environmental tort jury trial and handling complex white-collar prosecutions. Through his consulting practice, he collaborates with legal and design professionals to develop communication strategies, though no formal academic lab or research team is specified.
