Sean K. Barker is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Computer Science at Bowdoin College. He holds a PhD (2014) and MS (2012) in Computer Science from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and a BA (2009) in Computer Science from Williams College. His research focuses on energy-efficient systems, smart building technologies, sustainability in computing infrastructure, and distributed systems. Notable projects include smart meter data analysis for compression and virtual power metering, resource management in data centers using intermittent power, and cloud database optimization via on-demand live migration.
Teaching responsibilities include systems courses such as Operating Systems (taught in Spring 2018 and later), Distributed Systems, Data Structures, and Foundations of Computer Systems. He is currently on sabbatical for the 2024-2025 academic year. Contact: Email, Office: Searles 220.
